By: MOS Fitness Team – demedeus

On October 2, a massive oil spill occurred near the coast of Orange County, California. The spilled crude oil contaminated large tracts of beaches, killed many fish and birds, and threatened the local wetlands. The spill was related to a pipeline connected to an offshore oil platform near Huntington Beach. The accident caused at least 126,000 gallons of crude oil to leak into coastal waters, forming an oil slick with an area of about 8,320 acres, which spread to Newport Beach early on Sunday. Oil from the spill also infiltrated Talbert Marsh, a 25-acre ecological reserve in Huntington Beach, the home to dozens of species of birds.
