Daily Mail reported that a new book titled “What Really Happened in Wuhan: Cover-ups, Conspiracies, and Classified Research” revealed that the National Institutes of Health, along with the National Science Foundation of the Communist Party of China, was the principal sponsor of coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The book claimed that during a visit to the Wuhan Institute in March 2018, the U.S. career diplomat Rick Switzer alongside the U.S. Consul General Jamie Fouss had already found the Wuhan Institute with poor safety practices and no oversight from the U.S..
In a subsequent cable sent to the U.S. State Department in April, Switzer specified how the National Institutes of Health (NIH), led by Fauci, funded the lab’s research, which included experiments on coronaviruses. He added that the Wuhan Institute hosted the visits of experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation, and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2017. The Galveston branch also trained technical staff from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Prior to the CCP virus pandemic, only two laboratories in the world conducted functional enhancement experiments on coronaviruses, including the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which began a year after the U.S. halted that research.
