European Parliament Resolution: To Cooperate with U.S. to Reduce Tensions in Taiwan Strait

On October 6, the European Parliament passed with 550 votes in favor, 83 votes against, and 55 abstentions, “the future of EU-US relations” resolution, with a high number of votes.
The resolution recommended that the EU and the United States should seek consensus and cooperation on reducing tension across the Taiwan Strait. Emphasizing that the EU must seek consensus and the possibility of cooperation with the United States on issues such as protecting the human rights of ethnic minorities in China, reducing tensions in the South China Sea, the East China Sea, Hong Kong and the Taiwan Strait; The role played by the United States and Europe’s common democratic partners such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Taiwan should be strengthened.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed this resolution and thanked the European Parliament for taking concrete actions once again, and for its attentions over maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The Foreign Ministry also stated that in the face of the constant threats and provocations from the CCP, Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with countries with similar ideas such as the European Union and the United States, and work together to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
