The Covid19 has caused a global pandemic when the epidemic in Wuhan was deliberately covered up by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in early 2020. In Australia, almost 30,000 people have been infected with a death toll of 910. The pandemic has severely impacted Australian economy. Many small businesses were forced to close due to the lockdown. According to the latest statistics, the unemployed rate has increased to 7.9% compared to 5.2% before the pandemic in 2019.
In addition to direct impact of Covid19, Australia also experienced economic sanctions imposed by the CCP. When the Australian government requested an investigation into the origin of the virus in September 2020, the CCP imposed absurd tariffs on Australian products, including barley, beef, wine, cotton, lobsters and timber. The tariffs have brought the trade of these products with China to a halt, resulting in loss of income and increase of unemployment rate in Australia.
However, due to China’s huge demand in energy and high-quality iron ore, the export of Australian natural gas and iron ore has not been affected. Consequently, the price of iron ore has soared to US$200 per ton with the price of natural gas being returned to the level of two years ago, that have offset some of the losses in agricultural products due to the sanctions.
The Covid19 has also brought impact to the higher education and tourism sectors. Before the lockdown, about 300,000 international students came to Australia each year, contributing around one billion income to Australian economy. Because of COVID19 and its associated restrictions and lockdown, the tourism industry is expected a loss of $55 billion this year, according to a federal government report.
The recent federal government budget showed that the recovery of Australian economy has a long way to go. Since the outbreak of global pandemic, the Australian government has spent 90 billion on the JobKeeper program to support the unemployed people.
In summary, Australia has been severely impacted by this global pandemic. More and more evidence show that Covid19 is a bioweapon that was developed by the CCP. The Australian government has done an excellent job in supporting the investigation on the virus-origin and counter CCP’s economic coercion. The day has come to hold the CCP accountable for the global pandemic.
