The Hong Kong Alliance Refused to Cooperate With The National Security Bureau

Deutsche Welle reported on Sept. 5 that the National Security Division of the Hong Kong (NSDHK) police department said last month that it had reason to believe that the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC) was a “foreign agent”. NSDHK requested that HKASPDMC submit information, including information on all its members and staff under the National Security Law, to the police by Sept. 7. In response, HKASPD’s Vice Chairman Xingtong Zou said at a press conference on Sunday that he refused to cooperate and announced that a general meeting will be held on Sept. 25 to decide whether to dissolve the organization. Xingtong Zou said that it was abusive and unreasonable for the State Security Division to arbitrarily accuse the civil society of being “foreign agents” by invoking the State Security Law without providing any justification. The Hong Kong police have responded by reiterating that non-compliance would result in a fine of HK$100,000 and six months’ imprisonment; if it submits false, incorrect, or incomplete information, it is liable to a fine of up to HK$100,000 and two years’ imprisonment.
The HKASPDMC is established during the 1989 democracy movement by the Hong Kong people. Its annual June 4 commemorative rally was banned for the first time in 2020 after Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement in 2019. The HKASPDMC has been under increasing political pressure, with a number of its Standing Committee members and former Standing Committee members embroiled in lawsuits.
Since CCP’s national security law came into effect, more than 100 pro-democracy activists have been arrested by the authorities under this law, and many other activists have gone into exile overseas. And a number of civil society organizations have been publicly accused and pressured by CCP’s propaganda. In August this year, the Civil Human Rights Front in Hong Kong was forced to announce its dissolution.
The CCP’s perverse actions in Hong Kong have shown people clearly the essence of its dictatorial and tyrannical rule. Together with the CCP virus pandemic it deliberately created, the tide of extinction of CCP has become unstoppable and Hong Kong will surely be restored.
